MAJOR LAZER

Major Lazer (Ferry Gout)

Major Lazer is an electronic music project created by American DJ and record producer Diplo. Formerly a collaboration along with English DJ/producer Switch, they parted ways in late 2011. Diplo has since enlisted producers/DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire to help with the production and live shows. Their music spans numerous genres, usually fusing reggae and dancehall music with dance genres such as moombahton and electro house.

Major Lazer  artist
Ferry Gouw is an Indonesian musician, illustrator and video director working in the United Kingdom. He is the frontman of the indie band Semi-finalist and has directed and produced music videos for several bands in the UK indie music scene, including Lightspeed Champion. As well as being the creative vision and illustrator for Major Lazer, his video for Major Lazer's track, 'Hold the Line' received critical acclaim and was nominated for the Breakthrough Video award in the MTV Video Awards. Major Lazer frontman Diplo also stated that Gouw has produced all artwork ever used by Major Lazer, from album art to promotional images.
Ferry Gouw grew up in Jakarta, then came to London as a young adult to study art at Central St Martins college. He became friends with Tom Vek, a contemporary at Central St Martins. After graduation he joined the band Balls, a precursor to Test Icicles, and became part of an English indie scene, for which he has made music videos and graphics for several bands, including Simian Mobile Disco and Bloc Party. He has also illustrated club flyers and made cover art for many artists, including Young Turks. The 2009 Spring/Summer edition of Plastique featured 3 alternative covers, each with an illustration by Ferry on the back. He lives and works in London with his photographer girlfriend and baby kitten.
Ferry's new project, Celestial Bodies, release their debut 7" in March 2010 on Home.Under.Ground Records
