drawing ideals and concepts #2

drawing ideals and concepts #2

really playing with the idea of using the traditional process of traditional flash  Tatooine I decided to purchase  some inks by doing a lot of research  on the topic and what a lot of videos of artists using this traditional way of working. I started to put together some designs and use really luminous colours that will brighten up the design itself.

is not using this we have working for a really want to push the boundaries and try new and exciting ideas so as I've never done portraiture before I decided to do a few warmup drawings and warmup Inc paintings and decided to do portraits of some of my favourite characters from films to help me warm up to the idea of using this traditional process. critically I feel isn't great but with a lot of practice and a lot of time put and I feel I can make this process my own by binding it with luminous colours.

and a lot more drawing playground with more ideas just really haven't fallen getting back to my roots and really enjoy my work I feel this was the best way to help me from a block from creative block is a tough thing and try and overcome it by drawing  things that I really like drawing really helped me, and my comfort zone and help me pursue clear ideas that I feel I could use in this new way of working in my concept.

I also played around with a couple blending and try to find what colours worked colours didn't I found that some colours when mixed together bled became muddy on the paper saw added a lot more research into paper on what works with the inks and what doesn't work the links so as you can see on the right the page this was me testing a variety of different processes out on different types of paper to see which work the bests.

really stand and understand how this way of working comes together and binding colours and seeing what works and what doesn't work drawing native and cultural trance with her sense of Tatooine flash important results this really helped me get pencil paper I'm really excited to pursue this process in more depth and is really get stuck into this project had on.

Level 5- Communicating and Understanding Briefs- part one of two

Commission:
 Noun
An instruction, command, or role given to a person or group.
"one of his first commissions was to design the the next cover of the magazine"
So clearly a brief or commission will give me the instructions I need to perform the task set for me exactly how the client wants it. This is where communication becomes important. Without constantly communicating throughout a job, the direction of work may be misled and not meet the client's expectations. Today though, there are numerous ways of communicating with someone and usually a combination of methods is the best way to come to agreements.
Possible forms of communication:
  •  E-mail
  • Skype
  • Telephone
  • letter by post
some people it can be easy to overthink your reply and send something totally Rushed or way to  formal. a  balance must be found in  between the methods of communication to avoid any misdirection between the client and the service provider.

I would ideally like to have contact through e-mail and telephone with the option to meet, Skype and text if needed .

Level 5- Conceptual Branding

Brand

Brands often come in the form of logos, and usually coupled with handy taglines, specific memorable colours and names and graphic shapes. Of course, one of the most important brand identifiers is the name. A name is what people will remember most, and is one of the biggest contributing factors in brand recognition and awareness.

a 'conceptual brand' should not be confused with 'the concept behind a brand'. A concept behind a brand is just what it sounds like- the idea, the story and essentially the heart and soul of a brand.

advertising and marketing campain will be based around the  vitally important to think up a likeable, believeable concept for your brand.

the  Apple logo, which is  rated #1 on the Forbes magazine 'The World's Most Valuable Brands' list with a value of $104.3bil[2]. Possibly one of the greatest designed logos of all time

Apple logo,May 17 1976, Rob Janoff [3]

The change in direction for the logo also encouraged a new marketing perspective, by trying to show users that Macs are professional and creative with their tv advertisements and using specific campaigns for their different products- i.e. Mac and iPod.

Level 5- Communicating and Understanding Briefs- Pt2. Understanding and Organising Briefs

 understanding brief  part-two

currently at  university  my year group  is   currently receive our assignments in the shap of a brief, in  the same format   that would receive in the working world.

written and  spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by an high level of law with the working Industry.

a brief that the artist will be paid in full according that the  work is required.  contracts
are a  really powerful thing in the world of business which is not easily broken without serious legal repercussions.
"A material breach is a breach that reaches to the heart of the contract’s subject matter and negatively affects the outcome of the agreement. The essential requirement for a material breach is that the non-breaching party did not receive the “substantial benefit” of the bargain.
A material or “major” breach usually has the effect of defeating the parties’ intentions in the contract. If the breach seems unfair or has gone beyond the terms of the contract, it is usually a material breach." [1]
example of these breaches would be if a plumber was employed to install some copper pipe inside the walls in a bathroom. If he used silver pipe, which was actually of a higher or equal quality, this would be considered a breach of contract but a minor breach because there are no adverse effects on the quality of the work commissioned by the homeowner.

highlight important parts or stick the brief where they can constantly see it,. at the beginning of their working sketchbook or at the wall of their workstation.

Level 5- Writing a Brief for Commission- Pt1. What a Brief Needs

Level 5- Writing a Brief for Commission- Pt1. What a Brief Needs

to understand a commission more you should know one is together. working within a group we were given the task to write for the other group, either in pairs or threes.i worked in a group with Sophie and wanted to create a graphic design brief for Robin,Danielle and Liam.

to understanding the brief we regularly get for our modules we can state that the brief that is giving usually have these things:

  • A 'title' relating to the project
  • A specific and realistic deadline
  • Image specifications-
  • Size
  • Format
  • Method of Delivery
  • Any research/inspiration/influential work that should be referenced
  • A specific purpose
  • Possibly a budget (if working with installation art, exhibitions etc)
  • Material specifications (if needed, i.e. must be digital, pencil)
  • Project 'checkpoints' to see progress and to be signed off by client
  • Any other important information as deemed by the client
Using this list we will compile a realistic brief for their group, tailored to their talents for the purpose of this task.

conceptual branding

conceptual branding

'Brand is the "name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's product distinct

from those of other sellers."' [1]

Brands are particularly important in the world of advertising, marketing and sales- the main purpose is to make its product or service relevant for its target market and to set it apart from rivals. A brand is synonymous with identity, and having a solid, well thought out brand can be hugely beneficial to a buisness. Brands often come in the form of logos, and usually coupled with handy taglines, specific memorable colours and names and graphic shapes. Of course, one of the most important brand identifiers is the name. A name is what people will remember most, and is one of the biggest contributing factors in brand recognition and awareness.

Brand awareness is when a consumers can recognise a particular brand under different situations and can link the name, logo etc to certain parts of their memory. Most large companies aim for "Top-of-Mind" awareness which means when asked to name a general type of product that brand springs to mind- for example, someone could ask for a name of a coffee shop and they might say 'Starbucks' as the first thing that popped into their head.Strategic awareness happens when a brand is top-of-mind but also has qualities the consumer perceives as being 'better' than other brands. This distincts that brand from its competitors and can also be known as a 'unique selling point'.

Level 5- Writing a Brief or Commission- Pt2. The Brief

Together, me and  Sophine wrote a brief based on a make-believe alcohol company commissioning a logo.

Voodoo Lemons

Tequila with a tantalising twist!

For this brief we require you to collaborate on a logo for our new brand of alcohol, Voodoo Lemons.
The concept behind the brand is that this tequila is made by clans of feral lemon clans who annually sacrifice each other to the Tequila God. Think Mayan and Aztec influences, and a humourous feel is also important so it remains in the same vein as our television advertisements.

Size:
One logo at 300x300mm at 300dpi (high resolution for print and editing purposes)
Same logo at 400x400px at 72dpi (screen resolution for websites and small advertiements)

Image:
3-5 colours only please. Open to suggestions regarding this if highly important to logo execution.
Must include at least one voodoo lemon wearing some type of ceremonial headdress with a hunting weapon and a comically angry/ bloodthirsty expression.
Must include the name of the brand 'Voodoo Lemons' and the tagline 'Tequila with a tantalising twist'.
Must contain depiction of 'tequila god' somehow (you have creative freedom on this).

Important Information:
Progress check #1 21/12/2014
Progress check #2 5/01/2015
Deadline 2/2/2015

Work MUST be sent digitally through dropbox and e-mail containing all versions of the logo. Finished logo MUST be sent in both .jpeg and .psd file types. Work must be appropriately named (i.e. voodoolemonlogo.jpg or similar)

Welcome to the zero friend club

Welcome to the zero friend  club book I have previously bought from Amazon now that if you were to of some the ice since Yahweh as inspired me on my journey.

This week I bought a variety of new books that i  could  or will help me with my creative process and help me develop my designs to a professional standard give me some ideas in which I can develop my process to give the professional look. Were the books I bought was the zero friend club  this a variety of different artists  from Los Angeles specially Skinner and Alex pardee. Two artists that I've discovered while doing research for my zine.

Some artwork from the book itself this artist use a variety of media Israelis work bullies especially known for ink and beer mixing the two together to create a composition in which you can see in the following image. I really like his use of line and is clean finish to all of his work but this has a type  of realism and it's some think that I haven't followed within my process.

Love rise from the book I really liked  the big fan of classic all  horror posters and this really stood out from me no one is used to process itself when the process disclose a really cool design fought I  show .

Moving on one of my favourite artists probably one of my fee rise of this book Skinner. An artist born in Los Angeles is a crazy imagination I love the process itself I put into every piece of work a mixture of graffiti spray paints and ball incline work which he finishes off to a extreme detail to his pieces of art.

Probably my favourite you can clearly see why his attention to detail and process his creatures themselves tell a story which I've tried to shore in my work booked and discomfort stand-alone characters which follow a pattern within my work I've followed the artist on you Tube and looked at a variety of these videos and followed his process.

More work from the amazing Skinner. I just really love his work on the on the DL are causing just make among creature is really impressive in its and I would love to pursue with not having enough time off until a back on a lot of detail in which I feel isn't relevant for the time being bought as this process progresses I would love to learn more about his process in which he creates his fantastic creatures.

album cover design

Album Cover Design....

step1
so within this post i will be talking about my process to achieve the out come i have chosen to use as my final design for my album cover this is going to be a long and painful post. but lets start from the begin. i used a templet for  this one i will add a link to the webpage at the end of the post.so like the small poster design i started with the background i used the same one from the small poster design but in a different witch you will see as i go thought after placing the design in to the templet i then start to map out guides to help me plan my imager out.

step 2
after playing out with the guide i moved on to the background i wanted something different from the poster to have a link with the design its self so i played about with the levels and the colours  then placed a big block of blue using the block colour  tool  then overlaid it with the background and this was the outcome of the experiment i am really happy with the outcome and i think the colour really go well i really like how the blue really brings the texts out .

step 3
after playing about with the level and filter i started using some patten that i made using ink. then i scanned them in and put them in to photoshop then i placed the design i was happy with then i cleared  them up using the magic tool and then i copied the patten over and over again and placed it allover the design to give it a feel of chaos. i feel that i have achieve.in step 4 i will be talking about  the imager and how i placed it.

step4
i started playing with imager and how i was going to place it i looked in my book to look for a image i could use and i found the one i could use i played around with the placement till i was happy with the over all look.

step 5
i used the text from my laster design and my poster design to keep a link with my concept

step6
after adding the text to the design i played about with the full design and moved the text round the templet  and played with the background to get some of that patten coming through   because after placing the imager and text in i lose some of the background so i move somethings around to let the patten come through

step7
adding the songs  list to the back of the design

small poster design and process

Small Poster Design...

i start adding my work in to photoshop taking drawing work out of my book and using the processes i have found out from the artist i have looked at for my research. i started with my small poster format seeing that this will be the samples  one out of the lot so lets begin.

i started with adding  one of my design from my book and placing it in the box shape and played  about with the text over the top to give it a overweening feeling i feel i have achieve this with the use of txts and colour the yellow really brings out the texts.
after i was happy with the over all outcome of the background i started to play about with some of my image from my book i need to find a image that would fit nicely with my background and that was a big challenge see that all the design and drawing i have done have very over powering colour . this main the image could get lose within the background or the background being to over powering for the imager i will play about with some image that i feel could work.

so after a really long time trying out how i can make the imager work with the background i found a image from my book that i was more then happy to use i tried it out with my poster design witch  i will talk about in the next post but yeah back to this i played about with placement of the image and see how it complement the background i was more the happy with the progress so far so i moved on to texted i what to keep a patten with my work so i used the texted i made form newspaper and over layer it with the image so it was bold and so it would stand out.and that is it for my process with the small poster design like i said a easy one to start with...

editorial design

step1
for my editorial design i have used the same  pattens and ink teachers for the editorial i wanted to keep the same theme form the poster and album design to keep a link  with my work within this post i will be keeping it nice and simple as it was a easy process. i started with over laying the pattens to get a nice simple design.

step2
after playing about with the layout i went on to add colour over the top of the image buy over laying and then playing with the level to get a nice toxic patten i feel that i have achieve this  but i also think i have lose the hand render feel so i will have to take it back and experiment with some more image if i have the time .

step3
after i was happy with the background i placed my imager in the box and played around with the placement of the image till i was happy

step4
and then i added the text that i have used in every design

printing process for prints

printing process....

in this blog post i will be talking about my scene printing process for my tow prints that i made i draw two of the band members  dale and Jordan

i stated buy drawing two of the band members and then used a special type of paper called  coder. i stated buy drawing my images in three pasts i have done it this way to have a three colour pallet .then i used black ink to cover the imager.

then i repeated then same process with the other design i will be using

and this is how it look i use blue pink and yellow with this print and i also made my imager offset to give it more of a 80s hairstyle disco style.

this is what one of my prints looked like after i added it to my poster design.

large poster process

large poster process....

This is one of my poster designs from working in the print room and i am going to talk you though the process of how i achieve this design.first step i draw a simple face outline on to so coder paper then i used the same process that i used on my small prints.after mapping out out the imager i used a small templet of the design i draw then mapped out colours that i would come to use.
after i was happy with the planing my process i moved on to prepping my screen with the design then a draw the image with the colours of my choosing.after i was happy with the colour choose i placed black over the imager then pulled the back ink over the image and this was the out come  i was really happy with the over tern out.of the design and i really like how textier really complements the design.

drawings process 3

Drawing Process 3....

after playing about with different drawing styles i was happy to move on to using colour the process i used was masking off the back ground and then adding coloured ink in to the mix after adding the ink peeled the masking tip off it give the work a type of bored and really happy bring the image out. it was a really cool process to use and will probable be one i will use again in future work.
i used the same technician like the lasted one with the masking tip but i also played about with shapes and placing them around the image used red pen to make the shapes stand out .

drawing concept 2

drawing concept 2...

page 1
after loosening up my draw style i have found that this way  of work  really works well and i am happy with this outcome and will continue to develop this style and posable try to develop it with colour...
page 2

after developing the drawing style that i was really happy with  i starter drawing the members of the band but i was  really drawn to dale the voiceless for the amazing sneak heads something thing about the expressions he gives when he sings is cool but creepy at the same time.

drawing concept 1

some after looking at artist really that really  inspired me  i started drawing some designs in my research i look in to the world of tedd boys and that furled my design i start with drawing some really simple faces. but put key thing like sunglasses and smoking to  give the face a character.

with the band being called the amazing sneak head i also started drawing half sneak heads to mirror witch i could use for a logo but its early day.

after drawing faces i moved on to drawing sneak i thought with the band being called the amazing sneak heads i experimented with drawing a lot of sneak but i didn't really like the i dear of using sneak with my concept so i desired not to use them with my work...

i moved on to illustration to the  songs and seeing if i can come up with a concept the the songs that have really inspired me are here it comes again/i'm a vampire/nighttime/flatlining.the song i was most inspired buy was here it comes again and i feel that could be come a big part of my work.

after getting some feedback on my work i could see that my work was becoming to much like tattoo work so i really need to experiment with new ideas and posable colour time will tell

poster design

POSTER DESIGN AND THE PROCESS

so after all my research in to the band and artist that have inspired me i have come to a clear i dear to the next level   i start with doing some drawing witch  i will show in my next post. but the design you can see was done with yellow ink and then using black ink to right over the top. i repeated  the type to go with the song i was covering all the song says is here it comes again and.

i think that this was really successfully and the yellow really commitments the types and enhancers the type face. i think its gives the texts a presciently.

after experimenting backgrounds and using ink i was really insipid by Jamie Resid the man behind the art work for the sex pistols. i tried doing a type face with ink to give it a triply feel but i couldn't get the type face to work with the background i made so i looked t Jamie Resid for some inspired in the from of cut up  collage  type. i used a newspaper and i made-up the bands name with the paper i think this really works and i am really happy with the outcome and it really gos with the band with them have a punk feel to there music.
Poster Process

i have taking some scene shoots of my process with my poster. i used image that i was talking about at  the start of the post and the i used the same image over the top to give it a over lapping feel the i inverted the lay over the top to get this crazy triply patten of colour i really like how the colour has came though the text.after that i used bits of masking tip to add over the top the design then added a black box but after look i decided not to use the black box because it was taking the crazy out of the design.after that i started to play with the text i made with newspaper and play about with it till i was happy with the layout.then after i was happy eith the type face i started to play with imager in the background but with the background it was to powerful for some of my image so i have to use some thing plan to make it stand out witch i am working on now...
